Eating Disorders
Bulimia and anorexia are prevalent among women ages of 12 and 35. The distorted body image associated with these disorders, can lead to permanent health problems and even death.
In Anorexia Nervosa, an individual will restrict their caloric intake for long periods resulting in unhealthy weight loss. Weight loss is achieved through starvation, exercise, vomiting, laxatives and other means. Driving these behaviors is an intense fear of becoming obese.
In Bulimia Nervosa, an individual engages in a cyclical eating pattern of binge eating and then purging. Purging is often accomplished by fasting, vomiting, using laxatives or excessive exercising.
